VUG releases prioritized features list

August 30th, 2010

In early August, ten institutions using, piloting, or evaluating the Vireo ETD Submission and Management software completed and returned ballots to voice their needs regarding the future development of Vireo.

In the past few weeks, the VUG Steering Committee compiled and has been examining these needs to develop a list of the top 20 desired enhancements for future versions of Vireo. At the top of the list included enhancements to embargo and publication functionality and the administrative workflow and user interface. Other feature requests included metadata enhancements, enhanced customization options, and improvements to the student user workflow and interface. To see the top 20 prioritized features, visit the VUG wiki site at https://wikis.tdl.org/vireo/Feature_List_2010.

The next step in the process of seeing these features integrated into Vireo is to present the priority list to the TDL development team and simultaneously to begin writing user stories, which can be used by developers to bring these enhancements to life within Vireo. As part of the development process, the VUG Steering Committee will work closely with TDL to address as many features as resources will allow, and to adapt as necessary, to address emergent issues.

TDL has not yet released a date to begin working on these enhancements, but once that information is available, it will be shared through the VUG listserv and via our blog at http://blogs.tdl.org/vireo/.
